Cherlyn Smith, Associate Artistic Director and Foundation
School Faculty

Cherlyn Smith joined Lori Belilove & The Isadora Duncan Dance Company in 1990. She received a B.F.A. in Dance from the University of Texas at Austin, where she also studied anatomy and kinesiology. In New York, Cherlyn has studied at the Limon, Muller, Graham, Cunningham, and Paul Taylor schools and has performed with numerous independent choreographers. From the moment she was introduced to Lori Belilove's class she felt a deep connection with the emotion and musicality of the Duncan technique and repertory. Cherlyn has also been a vital part of the school faculty of the Isadora Duncan Foundation, often teaching Company classes and setting repertory for performance. She travels in advance of Company tours to give master classes in the hosting community and teach and set repertory for local children guest appearing in the Company performances. She has been featured demonstrating Duncan movement and technique in a photo layout for Fitness magazine and was lauded by Anna Kisselgoff in The New York Times:  "Ms. Smith, with her rounded movements and tinge of red-haired Pre-Raphaelite sensuality, conveys an especially lyrical Duncan-like image."
