LA CLAUSURA SCONFINATA
Work-in-progress showings of a new performance combining contemporary dance, baroque music and Gregorian chant, at the Corsa all'Annello Festival in Narni, Italy. The dance theater work, conceived and directed by the American dancer and IDDC affiliate Julia Pond, and choreographed by Lori Belilove, explores the paradoxical richness of cloistered life in an Italian early baroque convent. Belilove and members of the Isadora Duncan Dance Company (Cherlyn Smith, Beth Disharoon and Danielle Kwozko) join an international group of women musicians directed by Candace Smith, founder and director of the Italian ensemble, Cappella Artemisia.
This project is one of the first to be created under the auspices of the Art Monastery (artmonastery.org) in Umbria, which produces music, art and performance through an innovative creative process deeply inspired by tradition.

MOVEMENT RESEARCH:
Reconstructions and Re-Imaginations
Panel Discussion: Entire dance economies, from ballet to Graham, are based on rebuilding historic works. What is the role of reconstruction in contemporary practice? How are artists exploring the space between reconstructing and re-imagining? What constitutes re-imagining? Discussion topics will include pedagogical efficacy, intellectual property, and nostalgia. Panelists include Lori Belilove, Deborah Black, Pat Catterson, DD Dorvillier, Levi Gonzalez, Richard Move, Stacy Spence, Jodi Sperling, and others. Moderated by Randy Martin.
The Movement Research Studies Project Series is an artist-curated series of panel discussions, performances and other formats that focus on provocative and timely issues of aesthetics and philosophy in the intersection of dance and social politics, confronting and instigated by the dance and performance community.
